Scorching Heat. Stunning Views. The Wake Alps.
It had been a while, but I finally went hiking again yesterday. This time, I headed to the Wake Alps in Wake Town, Wake District, Okayama.
My body was sluggish from lack of exercise, I’d gained a lot of weight, and the scorching 34°C heat was almost unbearable.
I used a hydration system and made sure to stay hydrated, but even so, I started feeling symptoms of heat exhaustion.
Starting from the Mt. Wakefuji trailhead, I advanced just a few meters at a time—then rested, then moved again—over and over. Somehow, I made it past Mae-no-mine Peak and down to the Wakeyukai Onsen trailhead.
The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. But being alone on the mountain, worn out and still, I was deeply reminded of how vast nature is, and how small I truly am.
It was a humbling and meaningful experience.
